I think it really depends on the cause of death in the first place. As Georgia said, sometimes doctors use defibrillators to restart the heart. There are also drugs that can fix a whole variety of problems that could also help, and people have been brought back to life after being legally dead for a number of minutes. However, if the brain is deprived of oxygen for a long time (eg while someone’s heart has stopped pumping blood to it) then they may have brain damage when they are brought back to life
