Adding tiny amount of fluoride to helps keep our teeth healthy. In the amounts present in drinking water out is safe. If you drank water with lots and lots of fluoride in it would make you very ill, but this won’t happen from drinking tap water.
Is it common for something to be safe in small amounts and not safe in larger amounts. For example, a paracetamol tablet is safe for treating headaches but lots and lots would make you very very ill.

Hey! As Georgia said – the amounts of fluoride which are actually present in drinking water makes it entirely safe and good for your teeth! There’s a lot of strange, but ultimately unfounded, stories and conspiracies around about Fluoride, but it’s absolutely safe! Otherwise, why would we scientists drink the water!?
