It’s very rare for PhD students to be fired or not allowed to complete their doctorate, and tends to only happen if they continue to do very little work over the whole of the degree. I know that I work hard so I’m not worried about it.

I do not think that people get sacked if something goes wrong because incidents can happen even if we do everything to minimise the risk of them to happen. I think it is only if people intentionally do bad things to people or illegal things (like stealing things) that they risk of being fired.

It’s a fear, but fortunately not one which is likely to come to anything. In science it is expected that things won’t always work out – I’d only get fired if something went front for other people because I didn’t do my job properly and signed off something which wasn’t fit to run!
