1 Question: what would happen if you added francium to water Keywords: francium, reaction, water Asked by anon-226725 to William, Thibaut "Tibo", Harry, Georgia, Emily, Aimee on 12 Nov 2019.
Aimee Egglestone answered on 12 Nov 2019:
It’s too dangerous to really do in a lab but I’d imagine there’s be a pretty huge explosion!
This shows you the reactions of all the preceding alkali metals and water!
William Wiseman answered on 12 Nov 2019:
Aimee’s video will give you all the answers you need. Francium has to be stored under oil to prevent it from reacting in air.
Thibaut Deviese answered on 16 Nov 2019:
Francium would blow apart, while the reaction with water would produce hydrogen gas, francium hydroxide, and a lot of heat. The entire area would be contaminated with radioactive material. Not sure this is something I want to try… And you?
